Ahh ... there were two baby hedgehogs in my garden this evening when we got back from walking Missy. They are about six inches long and were foraging on the lawn looking for tasty bits and pieces. Missy was totally mystified by them! She went up and sniffed (jumped back after her nose obviously hit something sharp) and then just warily circled them.

When searching for another blade for my frame saw this morning, I have found the blimmin' wig jig. How typical that it turns up on the very same day as its replacement arrives - I must've rummaged around in that drawer three times. That is exactly where I would've put the new one. Got a text from a friend who is in Cyprus at the moment, apparently it's very hot (she says looking out the window at the drizzly rain that has been falling all morning!) I'm off to go put a wig jip up for sale on Ebay ...

I need to make some more Athena bracelets like this one as I've sold out. I've been looking for my wig jig in order to make the links but it is definitely lost. I thought I had used it since we moved but I can't have done. Unless I'm looking right at it when I've searched every possible place it could be then I think it must've got left in one of the removal boxes that I emptied (or more precisely failed to empty) when we moved in. Bother bother bother. I'd rather be making jewellery than ordering equipment and supplies! Thursday, July 10

When we moved into this house in April, our three seater sofa wouldn't fit through the door! It came out of our old house OK but it had wider doors. Our present house is a pre-1900 cottage with very small openings. The removal men said the thickness of the (stone) walls wasn't helping any either! Anyway, we discussed taking the door off the frame to give some more room but in the end we decided to store it in a friend's industrial lock up and then donate it to some worthy cause (find out how to donate furniture to the British Heart Foundation). We have been making do with one two seater and a rocking chair. Trouble is, I like to spread out when I'm reading or got Missy, our dog, on my lap. Also sometimes at the end of a tiring day, you just want to lie down and slob out in front of the TV and so, after fighting over the space, DH and I finally bit the bullet and a few weeks ago, we ordered two arm chairs which will fit better in the house anyway and today they arrived! I am really pleased with some new beads I have made with ivory glass and very thin intense black in a line over the top. When superheated and the glass swirled around when molten, the black breaks up into little webbed lines and created a very organic bead that looks a bit like a pebble.
I am definitely going to have to make a pair of these for myself.

But there is method to my madness ... after Andy Murray did such a whoop! whoop! great job on Monday evening to get through another round of Wimbledon, I felt I had to take the afternoon off to give my armchair support especially as he was playing Rafael Nadal ... But ... I felt very guilty, I have lots of other things I should have been doing instead of enjoying myself so in order to use the time wisely and so I could say to DH when he gets home that I had a productive day, I have got out the ironing board and inbetween points I was quickly doing the odd sleeve. I didn't get that much done whilst the tennis was on but there were some rain breaks so I just listened to the TV whilst waiting for the match to come back on. Shame Andy lost but the good thing is that I am practically up to date with the ironing for the first time since we moved to this house ( ... in April!) |
