Someone sent me an e-mail this week enquiring about how much of my jewellery is unique and one-off. I thought it might be as well to publish my response to a wider audience as it's probably of interest. I will probably add it to one of the pages on the website soon too.

For the Jewellery section of my website, I make duplicates as soon as they are sold in order to restock my stall and so you are not getting unique jewellery when you buy from this section. However, after making items for a year or two, I become bored and will introduce new items to replace them and so whilst they are far from mass produced, you may see others wearing identical items.

I do make one-off items for the Jewellery section that are not repeated under the following circumstances

  1. A commission that is specified by the customer to be a one-off, in that case, I keep my promise.
  2. Sometimes I make something that looks great but I didn't enjoy making it due to being very fiddly (it doesn't happen often!) and so I don't repeat it.
  3. On a couple of occasions I have made things that I then promptly forgot how I made it or exactly what combinations of stones, crystals etc that I used. If I didn't get time to photograph it - that also becomes a one-off!
  4. I may have purchased some stones or beads that I cannot get more of and therefore the item is a one-off or very limited edition

In the Lampwork section of my website, everything is different though for items priced over £25.00. I may well make more of the same lampwork beads but I will do something different with them so the finished piece is distinct. For example, my Sea Breeze bracelet which is currently a £40 item. I have made four of these bracelets so far.

The first one looked like this, with two matching spacers inbetween the lentil lampworked beads. Notice there is an aqua and a green spacer inbetween each of the feature beads.

When I made a second bracelet using the sea breeze beads, the spacers were both aqua and with disc shaped silver accents separating everything.

Now look at the very latest version of this bracelet, as you can see, it's very different (as well as a much better photograph!).

I have used silver beadcaps on three of the feature beads, the spacers are all aqua and quite a bit smaller, the silver beads are round, etc.

This is the fourth version, I will probably only make one more of the Sea Breeze bracelets because, much as I love these beads, there are lots and lots more new ones in the pipeline!
